Divya Subramanian has successfully defended her Ph.D. thesis at the Centre for Urban Science and Engineering (CUSE), Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, India. Her doctoral research topic deals with public open spaces and their management in the Indian context. She completed her Masters’ degree in Architecture Design from Bergen School of Architecture in Norway (2012), having received the Norwegian state scholarship. She is an Architect by training.

Her doctoral research entitled ‘Evaluating Recreational Open Spaces: A multisectoral approach for the Indian context’ investigated the existing condition of public open spaces in three Indian cities and identified various quantitative and qualitative evaluation criteria. A multisectoral approach was implemented using varied multivariate statistical models of evaluation including principal component analysis, structural equation modelling, analytic hierarchy process, floating catchment area method and cost optimization using pinch analysis. Also, several qualitative methods like primary empirical survey, user perception survey, and landscape design evaluation were utilized where the primary focus of the evaluation was the needs of women, children, elderly and people with disabilities.

Her research articles have been published in peer-reviewed international journals like Urban Forestry and Urban Greening, Berkeley Planning Journal, and Process Integration and Optimization for Sustainability.
