Thesis Titile:Modeling of Integrated Urban water system

Mayank Gupta is a Ph.D. candidate at the Centre for Urban Science and Engineering (CUSE), Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, India. He has Masters’ degree in Environmental Engineering and management from IIT Kanpur. With bachelors’ degree in Civil engineering, he is trained in remote sensing applications. His scientific background is statistical modelling and environmental pollution monitoring with its socio-economic assessment.

His doctoral research entitled ‘Integrated Urban water and energy balance’ aims at improving the understanding of urban land-atmospheric interactions for more accurate prediction of weather and climate to develop better decision support system for mitigation measures.

Given the dearth of studies in India on investigating positive feedback loop between climate change and cities lead to uniformed planning.  His research integrates systemic modelling taking urban socio-economic, hydrology and meteorology variables to quantify heterogeneous profiles and investigate adaptation and regenerative measures.  The research uses Land-surface models (LSMs) and Weather research and forecast models (WRF).
