The Centre’s modus operandi is to encourage collaborations with the central, state and local government bodies; stakeholders in business and advocacy groups and interactions with global universities and governments to enrich the education and research environment and help develop unique innovative solutions for solving urban challenges for the Indian megacities and to promote sustainable future growth in various sectors.


The Centre proposes research, teaching and training in interdisciplinary areas to provide solutions to urban challenges faced by mega cities of developing nations. C-USE is interlinked to many departments, centres and groups at IIT Bombay. The students of the Centre can associate with and utilize the facilities, infrastructure and knowledge banks of these urban research facilities at IIT Bombay

  • C-USE at IIT Bombay is a part of the international consortium called Centre for Urban Science and Progress (CUSP), based in New York City (NYC). CUSP was launched on April 23, 2012 as a result of Mayor Bloomberg’s initiative to develop a world class applied sciences campus in NYC. It is a consortium of world-class universities including IIT Bombay, New York University and NYU-Poly, University of Warwick, Carnegie Mellon University, City University of NewYork, University of Toronto and industry partners including IBM, CISCO, XEROX, Siemens, Con Edison, AECOM, Ideo and National Grid.
