Shortlisting Criteria for Applications for Faculty Position

Qualification and Experience (Applicable to Faculty Positions at all Levels)

  • As per advertisement and Institute policy in force.
  • Applicant should have excellent academic background throughout
  • Applications in advertised research areas only will be considered. Applications in research areas that are well represented by core and associated faculty members of the Centre will not be considered except in the case of exceptionally good applications.
  • Candidates with architecture, urban planning, or civil engineering degree from reputed institutes at bachelors or master’s level with significant research contributions on urban issues are preferred. However, candidates with other educational backgrounds can also be considered if the candidate has demonstrated excellent research work in urban issues relevant to India.

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR POSITION

Research Publications

The candidate should have published at least two significant papers on urban issues in peer-reviewed journals of high repute. Relevance and quality of publications and the reputation of the journal will be judged by expert faculty members in that specialization.

Age of Candidate
Candidates below the age of 35 years will be given preference.

Seminar Presentation
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to give a seminar presentation on a topic in their research area. The candidate’s research, communication and teaching skills will be evaluated by the core/associated faculty of the Centre during this seminar presentation.

Recommendation Letters
Outstanding recommendations from at least three referees who are leading experts in the candidate’s research area are required. Also, the academic conduct and integrity of the candidate will be evaluated based on information obtained from previously attended institutions.

ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR POSITION

Research Publications
The candidate should have published at least six significant papers on urban issues in peer-reviewed journals of high repute. At least three of these papers should have been published during the period of assessment (i.e., at Assistant Professor level).

PhD Supervision
At least one PhD student graduated or is at an advanced stage under the sole supervision of the candidate. Proportional weightage will be given to co-supervised PhD students who are graduated or at an advanced stage.

Teaching
Should have taught, on average, two courses per year as sole instructor. Proportional weightage will be given for shared courses. The overall course feedback should be good, with a minimum teaching evaluation score of 70%.
The candidate should have developed at least one new course or offered at least one CEP course during the period of assessment (i.e., at the level of Assistant Professor position).

Research Grants
The candidate should have at least one significant sponsored research project as Principal Investigator with a research grant exceeding Rs. 10 lakhs during the period of assessment (i.e., at the level of Assistant Professor position). Research grants received as co-PI will be given proportionate weightage.

Seminar Presentation
External candidates satisfying the above criteria will be invited for a seminar presentation which will be evaluated by the associate professors and professors of the Centre. Internal candidates will also give a seminar presentation highlighting their research contributions to the department.

PROFESSOR POSITION

Research Publications*
The candidate should have published at least 12 papers on urban issues in peer-reviewed journals of high repute. At least six of these papers should have been published at the associate professor level.

PhD Supervision
At least two PhD students should have graduated under the sole supervision of the candidate.
Proportional weightage will be given to co-supervised PhD students who have graduated.

Teaching
Should have taught on an average two courses per year as sole instructor. Proportional weightage will be given for shared courses. The overall course feedback should be good, with a minimum teaching evaluation score of 70%.

*Patents granted, high-quality books and book chapters published and other similar markers reflecting the excellent research carried by the candidate can be counted towards any shortfall in quality publications upon strong recommendation by the Policy Committee.
